Frequently Asked Questions

How do I log onto Blackboard to start my class?

Once you are registered as a Jefferson student, immediately set-up your KCTCS student email account. Beginning May 1st, 2006, you will use your People Soft UserID and Password to access your email and Blackboard account (online courses) at http://elearning.kctcs.edu. This site can also be accessed from the E-Learning Home Page under “Log in to Blackboard”. Remember, you will not have access to the course until the start date.

As an online student, will I ever have to go on campus for my online course?

The course description, viewable at www.kyvu.org (Programs and Courses), should indicate if any on-campus visits are required. Please read the course description carefully before registering.

How do online students take tests?

Many instructors will place the test online for you to take and submit for grading. Many require one or more proctored tests. A "proctored" test is one where someone monitors you while you take the test. Some online classes require a combination of online tests and proctored tests. Please read your course description carefully to understand the class requirements.

What if I need to drop a class?

You may drop the class by emailing the Student Information Center. Your instructor may be required to notify the Student Information Center of your withdrawal.

Do I need to buy a textbook?

Most of the classes require a textbook. Read the course description for that information. You may purchase your textbook in several different ways: Order from the college that is delivering the course. Contact your home schools bookstore or order independently through various commercial websites such as Barnes and Noble.

How do I know if JCTC is my home school?

If you completed your application for admission and submitted it to Jefferson Community and Technical College (Downtown, Southwest, Northwest (JTC) Carrollton, Shelby), then JCTC is your home school.

How do I find KCTCS online classes?
www.kyvu.org list all KCTCS courses, including Jefferson Community and Technical College.

How do I find textbook information for my course?
Students can view their course description (which includes textbook information) at www.kyvu.org. Search the "Programs & Courses" for the specific semester and course section you are enrolled in and click on the section number. This will display all information provided by the instructor for the course. -OR - Students may follow the link to the online bookstore on the eLearning Home Page. This will provide the textbook(s) required for each particular course section. Make sure you know the course name, section, and instructor in order to receive the correct book information.
